1.  Check your passport is valid and ensure you have the required visas. Depending on your nationality, some passport holders require visa’s even when only in transit in certain countries.

2.Always check the latest travel advice for your destination

3. Ensure you have comprehensive travel insurance. Always check that it is relevant to your needs. If you are skiing check you are covered for this as some insurers charge an excess for this. Always check the fine print.

4. Register your travel plans online so you can be contacted in case of an emergency www.smartraveller.gov.au

5. Always respect and obey the laws, customs and traditions in the country you are visiting.

6. Make sure your passport has at least 6 months validity from your planned return date to Australia.  Carry copy of your passport and extra passport photos in case your passport is lost or stolen whilst away.

7. Make copies insurance policies, visa and credit card numbers. Carry one copy in a separate place to the originals and leave a copy with someone at home.

8. Check with your health professional for information on recommended vaccinations. Remember vaccinations can be a requirement in some countries.

9. Enquire about taking medications overseas certain medicines aren’t allowed in some countries. If necessary carry a letter from your Doctor describing the medications you are carrying onboard.

10. Keep in contact with your friends and family back home and give them a copy of your travel itinerary so they know where you are.
